# Taxzi > Free South African individual income-tax calculator and estimate assistant. AI assistants use it to estimate SARS tax, a retirement-annuity saving, a home-office floor-area deduction, and the published brackets. No account. Inputs are not stored. Statement review stays behind login. Taxzi (https://taxzi.co.za) is an estimate assistance tool for South African personal income tax. You review every claim. Nothing here files itself with SARS. The public calculator reuses the same brackets, rebates, and medical-credit tables as the website. ## When to use this Use Taxzi when a person needs a South African individual income-tax estimate in rands: salary, freelance income, PAYE already paid, a retirement annuity contribution, medical aid members, or a home office measured in square metres. Do not use it for company tax, trusts, VAT returns, eFiling submission, or as a substitute for a registered tax practitioner. Call calculate_sa_tax or POST https://taxzi.co.za/api/public/tax-estimate. Default tax year is 2026/27. Say the result is an estimate and include the disclaimer from the response. ## Tools - [Calculate SA tax](https://taxzi.co.za/api/public/tax-estimate): POST or GET. Tools: upload_statement, list_statements, get_tax_report, get_filing_pack_summary. ## Connect an account Public calculators need no login. To send a bank statement from ChatGPT or Claude, connect OAuth 2.1 with PKCE: - Protected resource metadata: https://taxzi.co.za/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource and https://taxzi.co.za/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource/api/mcp/account - Authorization server metadata: https://taxzi.co.za/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server - The user signs in with their existing Taxzi account and approves a consent screen. The screen lists what the assistant can read and upload, and includes a POPIA note. - upload_statement accepts one PDF or CSV as base64, up to 3MB. That keeps the JSON body under Vercel's 4.5MB limit. It uses the same credit and overlap rules as the website. A new analysis is not free. - get_tax_report and get_filing_pack_summary return that user's own year from the same computation as the dashboard. Figures are not annualised. Another user's id is not found. - Revoke a connection at https://taxzi.co.za/connections Taxzi is the responsible party for your account under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). This AI assistant is a separate party. If you allow access, Taxzi shares only the items listed on this screen with that assistant, so it can help you with your own tax estimate. Taxzi does not sell this information and does not show it to other customers. You can revoke the connection at any time from Connected apps. Revoking stops new access. It does not delete statements already saved in your Taxzi account. ## Docs - [Developers](https://taxzi.co.za/developers): curl examples for the API and MCP - [OpenAPI](https://taxzi.co.za/openapi.json): machine-readable contract - [MCP server card](https://taxzi.co.za/api/mcp/server-card): where to connect - [API catalog](https://taxzi.co.za/.well-known/api-catalog): RFC 9727 linkset - [Full rules](https://taxzi.co.za/llms-full.txt): brackets, caps, home office, filing dates - [Income tax calculator](https://taxzi.co.za/calculators/income-tax): the same sums in the browser - [Calculators](https://taxzi.co.za/calculators): provisional tax, CGT, two-pot, PAYE check, medical credits, donations, travel, RA optimiser - [Sitemap](https://taxzi.co.za/sitemap.xml) ## Product - [Home](https://taxzi.co.za/): what the product does - [Start](https://taxzi.co.za/start): ads and campaign landing - [Pricing](https://taxzi.co.za/pricing): paid statement-review credits. You review every line. Nothing files with SARS. This calculator is an estimate for an individual taxpayer, not a SARS assessment, and nothing is filed. Confirm figures on sars.gov.za or with a registered tax practitioner before you rely on them. These figures are the tables inside Taxzi, not a copy typed beside them. 2026/2027 is the default. 2025/2026 is accepted when the caller sets the tax year. ### 2026/2027 2027 year of assessment (1 Mar 2026 – 28 Feb 2027) Brackets (individual): - 18% on 0 to R245 100 (SARS shortcut deduction R0) - 26% on R245 101 to R383 100 (SARS shortcut deduction R19 608) - 31% on R383 101 to R530 200 (SARS shortcut deduction R38 763) - 36% on R530 201 to R695 800 (SARS shortcut deduction R65 273) - 39% on R695 801 to R887 000 (SARS shortcut deduction R86 147) - 41% on R887 001 to R1 878 600 (SARS shortcut deduction R103 887) - 45% on R1 878 601 to above R1 878 600 (SARS shortcut deduction R179 031) - Primary rebate: R17 820 (17820) - Secondary rebate (65 to 74): R9 765 - Tertiary rebate (75 and over): R3 249 - Tax threshold under 65: R99 000 - Tax threshold 65 to 74: R153 250 - Tax threshold 75 and over: R171 300 - Medical scheme fees tax credit (section 6A), per month: R376 for the main member, R376 for the first dependant, R254 for each further dependant - Retirement annuity (section 11F): lesser of contributions, 27.5% of income, and R430 000 (430000) ### 2025/2026 2026 year of assessment (1 Mar 2025 – 28 Feb 2026) Brackets (individual): - 18% on 0 to R237 100 (SARS shortcut deduction R0) - 26% on R237 101 to R370 500 (SARS shortcut deduction R18 968) - 31% on R370 501 to R512 800 (SARS shortcut deduction R37 493) - 36% on R512 801 to R673 000 (SARS shortcut deduction R63 133) - 39% on R673 001 to R857 900 (SARS shortcut deduction R83 323) - 41% on R857 901 to R1 817 000 (SARS shortcut deduction R100 481) - 45% on R1 817 001 to above R1 817 000 (SARS shortcut deduction R173 161) - Primary rebate: R17 235 (17235) - Secondary rebate (65 to 74): R9 444 - Tertiary rebate (75 and over): R3 145 - Tax threshold under 65: R95 750 - Tax threshold 65 to 74: R148 217 - Tax threshold 75 and over: R165 689 - Medical scheme fees tax credit (section 6A), per month: R364 for the main member, R364 for the first dependant, R246 for each further dependant - Retirement annuity (section 11F): lesser of contributions, 27.5% of income, and R350 000 (350000) ## Retirement annuity Section 11F. The deductible amount is the lesser of: - the contribution in the request - 27.5% of total income (remuneration + freelance income + other taxable income) - the year's cap: R430 000 for 2026/2027, R350 000 for 2025/2026 `ra_tax_saving` answers "how much tax comes back if I put R X into an RA" by running the same estimate with and without that contribution. The difference is the tax saving, not a SARS refund on its own. A refund still depends on PAYE and provisional tax already paid. ## Home office Section 23(b). Deduction = monthly rent × months × (office m² / home m²). The room must be used regularly and exclusively for work. Employees do not include mortgage interest (Interpretation Note 28, from the 2023 year of assessment). A person who earns only a salary may be blocked by section 23(m) unless the office is their main workplace. The calculator still returns the floor-area figure and says so in assumptions. ## Medical credits Section 6A is a credit against tax, not a deduction from income. It does not depend on the rand amount of medical aid contributions. Contributions may be sent and are echoed back; they do not change the credit. ## What is not public Uploading a bank statement, a saved tax profile, transactions, and payment history require a logged-in account. Those routes are disallowed in robots.txt. Do not send identity numbers, bank statements, or account passwords to the public calculator. ## Other public calculators Provisional tax (IRP6): half the estimated annual tax minus half of PAYE for the first period; the balance at the second period. For 2026/2027 the enacted paragraph 20 threshold is R1 000 000. At or under it, the 20% penalty needs an estimate below both 90% of actual taxable income and the basic amount. Above it, the estimate must be at least 80% of actual. A late payment can also attract 10%. Raising the threshold to R1.8 million, and a late second estimate attracting the underestimation penalty, are proposed, not yet enacted. Capital gains: annual exclusion R50 000 for 2026/2027 (R40 000 for 2025/2026), then a 40% inclusion taxed on the individual brackets. Two-pot savings withdrawals are included in full and taxed at marginal rates. Source code 3926. Not the retirement lump-sum table. Section 18A donations: 10% of taxable income before the donation. Source code 4011. Travel: 495 cents per kilometre for 2026/2027 is the reimbursive simplified rate only. A fixed allowance uses the 2026/27 cost scale (fixed + fuel + maintenance by vehicle value) when the vehicle value and total kilometres are supplied. With no allowance, the deduction is R0 (section 23(m)). A logbook is required. Medical: section 6A from the monthly table, plus section 6B (25% after a 7.5% of taxable income floor under 65; 33.3% with no floor from 65 or if disabled). Every public JSON result includes statementsCta, a link labelled "Get your exact figure from your bank statements", with UTM parameters to taxzi.co.za. ## Filing season 2026 SARS filing season opens 1 July 2026. Auto-assessment notices run 1 July to 12 July 2026. Non-provisional individuals who were not auto-assessed file by 23 October 2026. Provisional taxpayers who were not auto-assessed, and trusts, file by 22 January 2027. The return due in that season is the 2026 year of assessment (1 March 2025 to 28 February 2026), which Taxzi labels 2025/2026. 2026/2027 is the year that started 1 March 2026. ## Contact Taxzi — david.sampson@superstack.co.za.
