eThekwini rates are not SARS deductions
Durban is eThekwini. Municipal accounts, rates, and water on a cheque account are not personal income-tax deductions just because they left a Durban branch. Personal income tax is national. Pietermaritzburg (Msunduzi) is the provincial capital and a separate city; its old page now redirects here because the Act does not change on the N3.
A salary at the port, a logistics office in the CBD, or a corporate job in Umhlanga is commonly code 3601. Section 23(m) then blocks most work costs. The lines that still move the result for a lot of employees are the medical scheme and the retirement contribution already on the IRP5.
Commission reps and the logbook
KZN sales routes — Umhlanga to Ballito, the Berea, Westville, and out to the Midlands — produce fuel and toll lines that look tempting. A bank line is not a logbook. Travel for a trade or a travel allowance needs the kilometres SARS actually asks for. Private trips stay private, including the school run in Westville.
Owner-drivers and people paid mostly on commission are the group where those kilometres can matter. A salaried clerk at a freight desk usually cannot turn the same fuel slip into a deduction. Medical credits do not have a KZN amount
Section 6A medical tax credits are fixed national amounts per month for the member and dependants. They are not higher in Umhlanga and not lower in the CBD. Additional expenses under section 6B depend on your age and, in some cases, a disability, not on which beach you live near.
Ballito and the Berea have the same filing channel as everyone else: eFiling, with the IRP5 from the employer and your own records for anything that is not on that certificate. Taxzi can read the statement. It does not stand in a queue at a SARS office, and it does not file.
