EasyEquities, Satrix and Share Sales — CGT, Not a Bonus Salary

The app paid out R50,000. That is not R50,000 of taxable salary.27 September 2026 All articles

Proceeds

The bank line is what hit the account. CGT needs base cost (what you paid, plus allowable costs). EasyEquities / Satrix statements and IT3(c) are the evidence. Taxzi flags these platforms as investment / REVIEW.

2026/2027 arithmetic

Individuals: R50,000 annual exclusion, then 40% inclusion. Dividends on the same account may already have dividends tax withheld — do not also treat them as salary.

TFSA wrappers

If the holding sat in a tax-free account, growth is exempt under 12T, subject to contribution limits. Do not apply CGT and TFSA to the same slice.

Questions

Do I pay 45% on the whole EasyEquities withdrawal?
Not if it is a capital disposal. You include 40% of the gain after the annual exclusion — and only if it is not in a TFSA.
