IT3(b) Interest Certificates — What SARS Already Knows
If the bank sent it to SARS, the gap on your return is a gift to verification.27 September 2026 All articles
What it is
An IT3(b) reports investment income — typically local interest — for a tax year. Download it from the bank or accept the eFiling pre-populate after you check the rand amount.
Multiple accounts
Every South African interest-bearing account can produce a certificate. Add them. The exemption applies to the total, not per bank.
IT3(c) is different
IT3(c) is the capital-gains / dividend-type certificate from a broker. Do not paste an EasyEquities disposal into the interest line.
Questions
- What if eFiling shows interest I do not recognise?
- Call the bank and match the account number. Do not delete a third-party line because it is inconvenient.
Disclaimer: This is general guidance based on the South African Income Tax Act and published SARS Interpretation Notes as at the 2026/2027 year of assessment (1 March 2026 – 28 February 2027). It is not professional tax advice. Deductibility depends on your facts. Confirm current figures on sars.gov.za before you file.
