Two-Pot After You Withdrew — What Still Goes on the ITR12
The fund withheld something. The return still has to show the withdrawal.27 September 2026 All articles
It should appear as income
A savings-component withdrawal is taxable at your marginal rate. IRP5 / fund certificate code 3926 is the usual label. If auto-assessment missed it, edit. If it is there twice, fix the duplicate. The two-pot system started 1 September 2024.
Directive versus assessment
The fund applies for a SARS tax directive before paying you. Outstanding debt can be taken off. Other income the directive did not fully see can still leave a balance on assessment. “They already taxed me” is not the end of the ITR12.
Questions people still ask
Typically one savings withdrawal per tax year (1 March – 28 February), subject to fund rules, often with a R2,000-style minimum. The retirement pot is not this withdrawal. Contributions remain section 11F and do not increase because you withdrew. A second withdrawal in the same year is a fund-rule problem, not a Taxzi feature.
What we show you
If a 3926 line is on a certificate you typed, keep it in the year it belongs. Filing Season 2026 is the 2026 year of assessment. Taxzi does not file. Confirm two-pot FAQs on sars.gov.za.
Questions
- Must I still file if the fund withheld tax?
- If SARS requires a return or the figures are incomplete, yes. The directive is not always the final bill.
- Does a withdrawal reduce next year’s 11F room?
- The 11F cap is about contributions, not about whether you withdrew from the savings pot.
Disclaimer: This is general guidance based on the South African Income Tax Act and published SARS Interpretation Notes as at the 2026/2027 year of assessment (1 March 2026 – 28 February 2027). It is not professional tax advice. Deductibility depends on your facts. Confirm current figures on sars.gov.za before you file.

Find the two-pot and RA lines in your bank statements
Upload bank statements. Taxzi flags lines that may qualify under SARS rules. Mixed shops stay out until you say what they were. You confirm every claim. This is guidance — not a filed return.
Works with FNB, Standard Bank, Absa, Nedbank, Capitec, Investec and Discovery Bank PDF statements.
